"Streifen is a way of experiencing the city. It's about wandering around, discovering new places, and experiencing the unexpected." - Michel de Certeau, The Practice of Everyday Life

Welcome to "Streifen," an exhibition featuring 13 Berlin-based artists who have interpreted the concept of "Streifen" through the medium of painting. Through their works, these artists invite us to explore the hidden beauty of the city, to appreciate the overlooked, and to see the unexpected in a new light.

Their paintings showcase the back side of the city, revealing traces of destruction, waste, and coincidental compositions that make up the urban landscape.

By approaching the theme of "Streifen" in their own unique way, these artists remind us of the power of painting to capture the essence of wandering and experiencing the city through the eyes of a painter. Through their works, they encourage us to slow down, to take a moment to appreciate the beauty in the everyday, and to wander through the city streets with a renewed sense of wonder.

We hope that this exhibition will inspire you to see the city in a new light, to discover the beauty in the unexpected, and to explore the back side of the city through the eyes of the artists.

Christian August

In his painting, he like to work with ambiguity and difusity which for him is anexpression of a certain complexity. He think it’s important to see the world in all itscomplexity.„In the end, it's obvious - everything and everbody has its own truth. Art,as well.

Duncan Passmore

The layers which form Passmore’s paintings are spontaneously created anddestroyed within the city and studio alike. Striving to find a curious harmony betweenfiguration and abstraction has led to a fascination within the ambiguous visualpatterns of life. This channeling of the uncanny requires a ‘Gestalt based order of things’ to battle formeaning within a world of chaotic expressiveness.
